Yerba mate is a traditional South American beverage crafted from the leaves, stems, and twigs of the Ilex Paraguariensis plant. This invigorating drink offers numerous benefits for both your mind and body. We highly recommend reading our blog to discover more about the exciting world of Yerba Mate. Once you learn about its unique qualities, you'll see why many consider it a superior alternative to coffee.
When it comes to yerba mate, starting from the beginning is always a good idea. However, if you're feeling adventurous, you can skip ahead and begin by purchasing your own holly bush and giving it a name like George 😉.
In all seriousness, an essential item to have is a bombilla. It allows you to enjoy yerba mate without the hassle of picking out leaves from between your teeth. For more guidance and tips, we invite you to read our starter's guide, which provides valuable information to enhance your yerba mate experience.
Brewing Yerba Mate: A Quick Guide
- Gather your materials: Yerba mate, a gourd or cup, and a bombilla (metal straw with a filter).
- Prepare your gourd or cup: Cure the gourd or ensure the cup is clean.
- Fill the gourd or cup: Fill about two-thirds full with yerba mate, creating a slope.
- Moistening the yerba: Pour a small amount of cool water onto the exposed side of the yerba mate.
- Insert the bombilla: Place the bombilla into the hollowed-out side, ensuring the filter end is submerged.
- Add hot water: Slowly pour hot water (70-80°C) into the empty side of the gourd or cup.
- Enjoy the first sip: Sip from the bombilla and adjust the angle for comfort.
- Refill and enjoy: Refill with hot water as needed to continue enjoying the flavors.
